Camp BGen Rafael T Crame, Quezon City- In recent weeks, a hoax kidnapping has been uncovered by the Philippine National Police Anti-Kidnapping Group after an alleged kidnapping was reported to the Group. According to reports, the hoax involves fake kidnappers and victim calling or sending messages to their family members, claiming that they have been kidnapped and demanding ransom payment.

Based on the records, one case of hoax kidnapping was reported to this Group on June 20, 2023, at about 7:00 PM. The complainant sought the assistance of this Group regarding the alleged kidnapping of her stepdaughter who is a minor Chinese national. According to her, the alleged victim was kidnapped somewhere in Pasay City and the captors demanded RMB1,000,000.00 to RMB4,000,000.00 in exchange for the victim’s safe release. The family of the victim also received a video of the victim through WeChat account being blindfolded, and handcuffed and a gun pointed at her.

At about 10:00 PM on the same date, the complainant sent PhP2,000,000.00 to the kidnappers, and Two days after another PhP800,000.00 was sent through an online money transfer. After the ransom money was paid to the alleged kidnappers, the victim sent a voice message to her father saying that she was safely released by the kidnappers.

Further, the investigation was made by this Group to help the victim and her family solve the said case. However, upon thorough investigation, the victim admitted that she concocted the kidnapping because she hates her father.

β€œThe PNP AKG is working hard to investigate and put a stop to this hoax kidnapping. We have issued a warning to the public to be vigilant and cautious and to immediately report any suspicious activity to the authorities. The public is encouraged to cooperate with the PNP AKG to help them solve this case and prevent the occurrence of similar incidents in the future.” PBGEN RODOLFO D CASTIL, JR, said.

Lastly, the PNP AKG has reminded the public that false reporting of a crime is a serious offense and can result in legal consequences. The Group has urged individuals not to engage in this type of behavior, as it can cause panic and divert resources away from genuine cases of kidnapping and other crimes.
